Ebba Bohlin arbetar konceptuellt med skulptur och installation, ofta platsspecifikt, experimentellt och i stor skala. Men på andra sidan Grankullaviken, på den östra stranden, fanns land i form av en ensam udde ut mot det öppna havet. Här pågick intensiv rituell aktivitet, udden har flera stora gravrösen och en processionsväg som nyligen har börjat röjas fram. Den mur som delar av udden har tidigare daterats senare, men vid nya undersökningar visat sig vara samtida med gravanläggningarna. Muren har tydliggjort det rituella landskapets gräns. Hela udden består i dag av naturreservatet Trollskogen. Här finns både betade strandängar, pinad tallskog och riktigt gamla ekar - alla fantastiskt artrika. Fantasieggande lianer av murgröna slingrar sig över träden och på östsidan av skogen brer klapperstenstranden ut sig. Under 2022 och 2023 arbetade vi med platsspecifika verk på udden som sträcker sig ut mot norr. Verken visades under sommaren på en utställning i och runt naturum Trollskogen, dit vi också bjöd in Sofia Sundberg och Helena Wikestam, två konstnärer med en djup relation till det öländska landskapet. However, on the other side of Grankullaviken, on the eastern beach, a piece of land existed in the form of a solitary tip facing the ocean. Here, an intense ritual activity was taking place; the point has several large burial cairns and a procession route which has recently begun to be cleared. The wall which separates parts of the cape has earlier been dated to the latter, but new investigations have proved to be contemporary with the burial sites. The wall has clarified the border of the ritual landscape. Today, the entire cape consists of grazed seashore meadows, pine forests, and very old oaks - all extremely rich in species. Evocative ivy vines wine across the trees, and the pebble beach spreads out on the eastern side of the forest. In 2022 and 2023, we were doing site specific works on the headland that stretches out to the north. The works were shown during the summer, at an exhibition in and around Naturum Trollskogen, where we also invited Sofia Sundberg and Helena Wikestam, two artists with a deep relationship to the landscape of Öland. Byns meterhöga husgrunder, murar och fägator visar än idag hur människor levde och organiserade sin tillvaro här mellan år 300 och 600 i vår tideräkning. I dag ligger byn mitt i Sveaskogs planteringar. En stor yta har röjts, varav en liten del har grävts ut. Fler lämningar finns synliga för den som strövar genom skogen runtomkring. Skymning i Rosendal tar sin utgångspunkt i platsens olika tidslager. Arkeologen Jan-Henrik Fallgren har sedan 1988 arbetat med utgrävningar och guidningar i Rosendal, här möts vi i ett samtal mitt i lämningarna. Samtalet börjar i solnedgången, och när mörkret faller visas konstinstallationer skapade med inspiration av platsen ute bland husgrunderna. En malsten, som hittades upp och nedvänd i en av härdarna i husen, skickas runt och sand hälls i våra händer. Genom landhöjningen blev sundet bit för bit grundare och runt år 1000 gick det inte längre att färdas med båt tvärs över ön. I spåren av havet finns bördiga fält i de djupa sediment som vattnet avsatt under långa tider, våtmarker och en stor grund fågelsjö, Hornsjön. Under en vandring följde vi vattnets väg som en gång delade norra ön, från Aludden på västra sidan till Bodudden på den östra. Vi gick under höga alar och genom sumpiga marker, förbi fält som dikats ut för att skapa jordbruksmark och längs de spikraka cykelvägar som lagts ovanpå järnvägsspåren som en gång gick över hela ön. Through the land uplift, the strait, little by little, became shallower and shallower, and around the year 1000, it was no longer possible to travel by boat across the island. In the traces of the sea, fertile fields can be found in the deep sediments deposited by the water for a long period of time, and remnants of wetlands and a large shallow bird lake, Hornsjön. During a hike, we followed the water route which once separated the north island from Aludden on the west side to Bodudden on the east. We walked beneath tall alders and throug swampy land, past fields drained to create farmland, and along the straight bicycle paths laid upon the railway tracks which once upon a time passed over the entire island. Större delen av udden ingår i naturreservatet Horns kungsgård. Ute på udden är det tydligt att vinden är ett av Ölands starkaste element. I det platta landskapet får den fritt spelrum. Arkeologen Jan-Henrik Fallgren har genom att studera äldre kartmaterial kunnat visa hur det såg ut före 1800-talet, med större och mindre våtmarker över hela ön. Många av dem användes under lång tid för att offra både föremål, djur, människor och troligen även mat. De heliga platserna föll i glömska under medeltiden och blev genom utdikningen till åkrar där ben och föremål plöjdes upp under 18- och 1900-talen. I dag har så lång tid gått sedan utdikningarna att de många föremål som ingen hittat antagligen har lösts upp i den brukade jorden, som har mycket sämre bevarandeförhållanden än de syrefattiga våtmarkerna. The archaeologist Jan-Henrik Fallgren has, by studying old maps, been able to demonstrate what the island looked like before the 19th century, with both larger and smaller wetlands across the entire island. For a long time, many of them were used to sacrifice both objects, animals, humans and most likely food. The holy sites fell into oblivion during the Middle Ages and, through land drainage schemes, were turned into farmland where bones and objects were plowed up during the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, so much time has passed since the drainages that the many objects not found have most likely dissolved in the cultivated land, which has much poorer conservation conditions than the oxygen-poor wetlands. During 2022/2023, Möckelmossen will be the starting point for artworks.
